Japanese entrepreneur who co-founded the Sony Corporation and its predecessor, the Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation.

He and his three siblings were raised in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture and were born into a family involved in the Japanese miso and soy sauce industries.

Morita died of pneumonia, according to Sony. He had been hospitalized in Tokyo since August, after returning from Hawaii, where he had spent most of his time since suffering a debilitating stroke in November 1993.
