Baroque classical composer and lutenist who wrote two highly regarded volumes of lute music. His manual for “Intavolatura di Liuto et di Chitarrone, libro primo,” published in 1623, claims that he invented the archlute.

He performed and held appointments for important members of the Catholic Church like Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini as his skills improved.

He claimed to have invented the archlute. He also developed the chitarrone.

His father, Leonardo Maria Piccinini, taught him and his two brothers, Girolamo and Filippo, to play the lute.
