Former appointed United States Circuit Judge of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit courthouse district of San Francisco. She was a member of the Washington State Bar Association and one of the first women in US history to become a partner in a major American law firm.
She graduated from high school at age 16, and then attended Stanford University. She graduated in 1942 with a Bachelor of Arts degree at the age of 19.
She worked as an United States Circuit Judge from 1979 until her death in 2012.
