Hall of Fame defensive lineman who gained a reputation as one of the fiercest defensive players in the NFL during the late 40’s and early 50’s. He played his entire career with the Cleveland Browns, making Pro Bowls in each of his eight NFL seasons and winning the NFL Championship in 1950.
He was raised by his mother and grandfather following the death of his father. He was married to Odessa Porter, with whom he had sons named Clement, Dan and William, Jr.
He was 86. The cause was complications of a stroke, said the current Browns franchise, the successor in Cleveland to the original Browns.
