Remembered for her work in numerous films of the 1930s and ’40s, she also appeared in a handful of 1920s, ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s features. Her best known roles include Alice Munro in The Last of the Mohicans (1936), Lady Arlington in Man About Town (1939), and Mildred Dean in The Time of Their Lives (1946).

She was born in London, England, to Rosa Enoyce and George Barnes. Following a brief first marriage to Samuel Joseph, she was married for five decades to film producer Mike Frankovich, with whom she raised three children.

Binnie Barnes died in 1998 of natural causes, aged 95, in Beverly Hills, California. She was interred in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale.
