Rose to fame as one-half of the British comedy duo Cannon and Ball alongside Tommy Cannon. He starred on The Cannon and Ball Show on ITV between 1979-1988, as well as Cannon and Ball’s Playhouse, Plaza Patrol, and Cannon and Ball’s Casino in the 1990s.

He met his comedy partner Tommy while working in a factory as a welder. He studied shipping management at Wigan Mining & Technical College for a short time.

He starred in the 1982 comedy film The Boys in Blue as one-half of the Cannon and Ball duo. He would go on to appear in a variety of sitcoms, including The Cockfields and Mount Pleasant.
