Went from Dick Clark’s sidekick on American Bandstand to the voice of Wheel of Fortune.

In 1958 he became the co-host of the still local show American Bandstand, which allowed him to take several disk jockey jobs and then an anchorman role in Los Angeles.

He joined the ‘Wheel’ in 1975, and stayed there until 1980, afterward sometimes filling in for his replacement and coming back to the show permanently in 1989.

Personal Life

He grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

His popularity on Los Angeles TV news was such that Paul Simon, of Simon and Garfunkel, used him as a news announcer in the group’s song, 7 O’Clock News/Silent Night.
