She graduated from Millsaps College and Columbia University and subsequently attended one year of medical school at Cornell University.
She was murdered by her grandson when she was eighty years old.
She married James B. Sumner, a Nobel Prize-winning chemist, in 1915.
Quality, one of Sumner’s most famous novels, was adapted into a film directed by Elia Kazan.
