Fantasy artist of the classic Dungeons & Dragons board game. He also authored the adventure module Queen of the Demonweb Pits with Gary Gygax.

He served in a military police unit during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to the United States, he began his career as a commercial artist.

His artwork and game memorabilia were auctioned off in 2004, and the auction proceeds were used to establish a trust fund for Sutherland’s daughters.

His father, David C. Sutherland II, was also an artist.

His Dungeons & Dragons game inspired a 1980 television show that starred Adam Rich.
