Prolific cartoonist most recognized for creating the Popeye comic strip. He won the 2nd and 3rd place honors at Time magazine’s As Seen By Cartoon contest.

He received his formal Arts education at elite colleges like the Pratt Institute and Cooper Union in New York.

He was a member of the highly exclusive National Cartoonists Society until his death.

He died unmarried.
