Biography - A Short Wiki

While serving during the 1950s and 1960s as the Philadelphia City Planning Commission’s Executive Director, this prominent architect designed such modern Philadelphia landmarks as Independence Mall, Society Hill, and Penn’s Landing. Though famous on his own merit, he is perhaps best known as the father of film actor Kevin Bacon.

His marriage to teacher and activist Ruth Hilda Holmes resulted in two sons — Michael Bacon (a musician) and Kevin Bacon (a well-known actor) — and daughters named Elinor, Prudence, Hilda, and Karin.

Edmund Bacon, 95, the brilliant, irascible city planner who spent much of the first part of the 20th century reinventing Philadelphia and the American city and much of the latter part defending his achievements, died yesterday of natural causes at his Center City home, according to family members.
