His parents thought he was mentally retarded because he did not speak until the age of three.
Teller received numerous awards during his career, including the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded to him in 2003 by President Bush. Teller suffered a stroke and died in Stanford, California, on September 9, 2003.
