Stage and film actor who gained recognition for his BAFTA Award-winning role as Soames Forsyte in the BBC’s The Forsyte Saga. He won the London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Actor for his work on Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

He made his stage debut at Cambridge at the age of 17.

He continued to act on stage until shortly before his death in 1995.
