Women’s rights activist who was one of the first advocates of giving Nigerian women the right to vote.
She studied in England and returned to Nigeria to become involved with politics, including becoming a member of the Western House of Chiefs of Nigeria.
She helped abolish the separate tax rates for women in Nigeria.
She was married to Reverend Israel Oludotun Ransome Kuti.
One of her sons is musician and activist, Fela Kuti.
How did Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti die?
Anikulapo-Kuti was thrown from a second-floor window. Following the attack, she was hospitalized and eventually lapsed into a coma. She died on 13 April 1978 as a result of her injuries.
