He married Jeanette MacDonald in June of 1937, although there was evidence to suggest he had affairs with men as well.

Gene Raymond, whose dashing blond looks led to a long career in theater, film and television, died on May 3, 1998, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 89. The cause was pneumonia, said his publicist, Esme Chandlee.
