Known for his work on such 1960s and ’70s films as The Ugly American, Zachariah, and Snow Job, this cinematic director also worked as a producer on the 1968 screen adaptation of the novel The Shoes of the Fisherman.
His more than two-decade marriage to Emmy Award-winning actress Cloris Leachman resulted in four sons and one daughter. In 1980, he married his second wife, Bonnie Graves, who became the mother of his sixth child.
