Latvian comic book artist who was the co-creator of the modern day versions of the superheroes Green Lantern and the Atom for DC Comics during his career span from the 1940s through the 1990s.
He was born to a Jewish family in Latvia and they emigrated to the United States when he was a baby in 1929.
He remained active as an artist until his death on January 31, 2000, in Miami, Florida from complications of lymphoma. He was survived by his second wife, Elaine; as well as a son and two stepchildren, Scott, Eric and Beverly.
