Played for Ilkeston Town, Middlesbrough, Watford; later became Watford’s manager for 16 seasons, leading them to a Southern League Championship in 1914–15.
He played centre-half back for Notts County, but he never made the first team.
He had to retire in 1912 because of a recurring knee injury.
He grew up with his family in Bedworth, England.
