She became famous from playing Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple in the popular TV series Miss Marple.

She married Eric Norman Butler in 1932. The couple had a daughter and son.

Hickson died in Colchester General Hospital from a stroke, aged 92. She is interred under her married name, Joan Bogle Butler, at Sidbury Cemetery in Devon.
