Japanese film director known directing the 1951 film Carmen Comes Home, the first full color feature made in Japan. He directed 49 films during his lifetime.

He was born in Hamamatsu, where his parents ran a grocery store.

Kinoshita died on December 30, 1998, of a stroke. His grave is in Engaku-ji in Kamakura, very near to that of his fellow Shochiku director, Yasujirō Ozu.
