American chef and writer, known as the Queen of Creole Cuisine, who owned the classic New Orleans restaurant Dooky Chase. She is also the author of The Dooky Chase Cookbook, And I Still Cook and Down Home Healthy: Family Recipes of Black American Chefs.
She married her husband Edgar in 1945. Their son’s name is Edgar and their daughters’ names are Stella, Leah and Emily. Her father was a caulker at a shipyard. She was the second oldest of 13 children.
