Liberal politician who was the 12th Prime Minister of Canada from 1948 to 1957. He is best known for moving Canada away from its isolationist policies of the past.

He worked as a lawyer and did not enter politics until he was sixty years old.

He helped avoid nuclear war by helping to solve the Suez Crisis in 1956 between Great Britain, France, Israel and Egypt.

He had five children with his wife Jeanne Renault.
