French musician who was taught piano by her sister Germaine. She would later die of a heart attack while playing her sister’s piano.
She began studying at the Conservatoire de Paris in 1911 under the guidance of Alfred Cortot who beamed with pride after she gave a brilliant performance of a Camille Saint-Saëns concerto.
She was invited by Ravel to play a two-piano version of La Valse with him before a private audience that consisted of Igor Stravinsky.
She was married twice, first to actor Pierre Bertin, then to Italian lawyer Carlo Di Vieto. She had two daughters with Di Vieto.
She was depicted in a famous 1922 painting by artist Jacques-Émile Blanche in which she can be seen with Jean Cocteau and the composers’ group Les Six.
