Italian actor who was the leading man in the films La Dolce Vita, 8 1/2, Henry IV, Dark Eyes and Divorce Italian Style. He received numerous honors during his career, including two British Film Academy Awards, two Cannes Film Festival Awards, and a Golden Globe Award.

He married to Flora Carabella from 1950 until his death. During his marriage, he was in relationships with actresses Faye Dunaway and Catherine Deneuve as well as with director Anna maria Tato, but due to his Catholic religion, he refused to divorce Carabella. He had a daughter named Barbara with Carabella and a daughter named Chiara with Deneuve.
