A German-born children’s author, she co-wrote and illustrated the classic Curious George books. Also a philanthropist, she made major contributions to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Boston Public Library and created the Curious George Foundation to help children and abused animals.
She was born in Hamburg, Germany. She met her husband and Curious George co-author, Hans Augusto Rey, in Brazil, where both were refugees of German Nazism.
