Entrepreneur best remembered for inventing disposable, waterproof diapers. She also worked as an editor at both Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar magazines.

She grew up in Indiana as the daughter of a manufacturing plant executive and fellow inventor. Her two marriages — to James Donovan and James Butler — produced a total of two children.

She was 81 and had helped spearhead an industrial and domestic revolution by inventing the forerunner of the disposable diaper. Her family said the cause was heart disease.
