Known for her roles in 1940s and ’50s Broadway productions of Music in my Heart, South Pacific, and Great to Be Alive!, this singer and actress also starred in a television music program called The Martha Wright Show.
A native of Duvall, Washington, she began her entertainment career as a Seattle-area radio and opera performer.
She recorded a number of albums, including Love, Honor, and All that Jazz.
Her marriage to restaurant owner George J. Manuche, Jr. resulted in four children.
In her early twenties, she replaced Mary Martin as Nellie in the Broadway production of South Pacific. She later took over for Martin in yet another Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, The Sound of Music.
