An American novelist and screenwriter, she is most famous for her 1941 work, My Friend Flicka. The book is set in Wyoming and focuses on rancher’s son Ken McLaughlin and his horse.

She began her literary career as a Hollywood screenwriter. Her film credits include The Prisoner of Zenda (1922) and Framed (1927).

Her popular novels include Thunderhead (1943) and Green Grass of Wyoming (1946).

She was born in New Jersey to a minister father. She married her third cousin, Kent Parrot, in 1905.

Actor and musician Tim McGraw appeared in the 2006 film version of O’Hara’s novel, Flicka.
