Italian violinist and multi-instrumentalist whose work “Caprice No. 24 in A minor, Op. 1” is a standard in violin music.

He was a child prodigy on the violin and the mandolin.

His family was driven from their home in Genoa during the French Invasion.

His father was a trader who earned extra income as a street musician.

He often performed music by Johann Sebastian Bach.

How did Niccolo Paganini die?

In May 1840, the Bishop of Nice sent Paganini a local parish priest to perform the last rites. Paganini assumed the sacrament was premature, and refused. A week later, on 27 May 1840, the 57-year-old Paganini died from internal hemorrhaging before a priest could be summoned.
