British poet and author known for the vernacular and religious character of such poems as “Old Man at a Cricket Match.” He also wrote several religious verse dramas, including Birth by Drowning and A Match for the Devil.
He received sanatorium treatment for tuberculosis when he was a teenager.
His literary legacy was celebrated by the 2006 establishment of The Norman Nicholson Society.
He married Yvonne Edith Gardner, a school teacher, in 1956.
