Considered the founder of modern fashion photography, he took glamorous portraits of royalty and celebrities in strange locales.

Starting out as a royal court photographer, he became a fashion photographer for Vogue and all the while developing his own style.

He took fashion photography out of the studio and into unusual locales – like his iconic photo of a young woman running breezily across Brooklyn Bridge.

He was born Ronald William Parkinson Smith in London, England.
