Defensive midfielder who played for West Ham United, Birmingham City and Fulham FC in the English Premier League.

He played youth soccer for ASC Diaraf for two seasons before making his senior squad debut for the team in 1996.

He earned over international 60 caps for Senegal’s national team between 2001 and 2008.

He and his siblings were raised in the small town of Rufisque, Dakar.

Diop died in Paris on 29 November 2020 following a long illness. It was reported by L’Équipe that he had ALS. Diop’s funeral was held in Dakar on 4 December before burial in his hometown.
