Painter whose popular portraits and still-life paintings include 1907’s “The Golden Birch Tree.” After losing over 120 of his paintings in WWI, he returned to Lithuania to teach art classes.
He was expelled from the Gymnasium of Jelgava, Latvia, which he attended from 1890 until 1895, after he was caught drawing on a stove.
He became a professor of art and published a textbook that detailed different painting techniques.
