Former American labor union leader and attorney that served as President of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations from September 16, 2009 until his death. He also served as the president of the Trade Union Advisory Committee.
He was born in Nemacolin, Pennsylvania to a second-generation Polish-American coal miner named Frank Richard Trumka and an Italian American named Eola Elizabeth. He and his wife were married in 1982, and together they have one son named Richard Jr.
