A television journalist and presenter who is most known for hosting the popular TV game show Countdown.
He was raised in Baildon, England and in his younger earlier years he took on a job as a trainee at ITN, before transitioning over to Yorkshire Television in 1968.
He was nicknamed “Twice Nightly Whiteley,” due to the fact that he presented Countdown and the Calendar news program on the same night.
He married Kathryn Apanowicz in 1994 and the two have a son named James who was born in 1987.
He was born in Bradford, England, the same place where actor Peter Firth was born.

Whiteley also had his own chatshow on BBC1. He was the subject of This Is Your Life in March 1997 when he was surprised by Michael Aspel on the set of the ITV soap opera, Emmerdale. In 2001, Whiteley stood as rector for Dundee University. He died on 26 June 2005 due to complications following a heart operation.
