An American sports columnist and short story writer, he satirized theater, athletics, and marriage in works such as Treat ‘Em Rough (1918). His other publications include You Know Me Al (1916) and Gullible’s Travels (1917).
He married Ellis Abbot in 1911. Together, they had four sons.
