Twentieth-century Bangladeshi-Indian poet, intellectual, and Communist activist. He edited the Bengali newspaper Amrita Bazar Patrika and was involved in the violent Naxalite–Maoist movement.
He graduated from the University of Calcutta in 1938.
In 1964, he became a member of the Marxist Communist Party of India.
He was born in East Bengal to a family of landowners.
He and Manabendra Nath Roy both became Indian Communist revolutionaries.
