Founding member of the rock band Jefferson Airplane who was only with the group in their first couple of years. She sang on their album Jefferson Airplane Takes Off. For nine years to follow, she sang in a ten piece band called Carl Smith and the Natural Gas Company.
She performed as a jazz and folk singer in Portland before co-founding Jefferson Airplane.
Her final performance with the band occurred in October of 1966 and can be seen on the DVD Jefferson Airplane: Live at The Fillmore Auditorium 10/15/66 Signe’s Farewell.
She was born in Seattle, Washington and raised in Portland, Oregon. She was married to Jerry Anderson from 1965 until 1974 with whom she had a child. She then married Michael Alois Ettlin.
She and fellow Jefferson Airplane co-founder Paul Kantner died on the same day.
