Sivaji Ganesan’s real name was Villupuram Chinnaiya Manrayar Ganesamoorthy. He was one of India’s most respected film actors, he is often referred to as The Marlon Brando of Indian Cinema. He is known for his award-winning roles in films like Gnana Oli and Muthal Mariyathai.
His son Vikram Prabhu is also a well-known Tamil actor.

Sivaji Ganesan suffered from heart ailments and respiratory problems and was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai on 21 June 2001. He died at 7:45 pm that day at the age of 72.
Burial
Villupuram Chiniahpillai ‘Sivaji’ Ganesan’s final resting place is at the Besant Nagar crematorium in Chennai (Madras), where his eldest son Ramkumar Ganesan performed the last rituals. He was accorded a quasi-state funeral. Thus, when the body in its glass-cased coffin arrived at the crematorium, an honor guard of state police presented arms, then moved into a 10-gun salute.
