Remembered as a pioneer of unisex fashion, this French designer introduced blue jeans and shoulder straps into the world of haute couture. In the 1960s, at the height of his career, he boasted such famous clients as Alain Delon and Brigitte Bardot.
His two marriages resulted in a daughter named Eloise and sons named Thomas and Olivier.
Lapidus died in Cannes, aged 79, from pulmonary complications brought on by leukaemia. He is buried in the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
