Nobel Prize-winning modernist poet best known for The Wasteland and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. His later works include The Hollow Men and Murder in the Cathedral.

His unhappy marriage to Vivienne Haigh-Wood began in 1915. Following Haigh-Wood’s institutionalization and subsequent death, Eliot married Esme Valerie Fletcher.
