Country artist and yodeler known as the Father of Canadian country music. He released singles including “Have a Nice Day,” which charted at #27.
After leaving home at fifteen, he worked as a lumberjack and sang with hobos in boxcars.
He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971, as well as the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1985.
His father was a Baptist Minister.
He and Ridley Bent were both Canadian country music artists.
