Recognized as the oldest living person in the world during a period lasting from late January of 2007 until her death in August of that year, this Japanese supercentenarian lived well past her 114th birthday.
Her husband died when she was still young, and she later outlived four out of five of her children. At the end of her life, she was living in a nursing community in Keijuen, Akaike, Japan.
The cause of her death was old age. Ms. Minagawa had been a resident of a nursing home in Fukuoka since 2005, when she turned 112.
