Moonbin’s Sudden Death Shocks K-Pop World
Beloved ASTRO member and rising star, Moonbin's life was cut short under heartbreaking circumstances in Seoul.

Fantagio, the agency representing ASTRO, shared a heartfelt statement on Twitter confirming Moonbin’s tragic passing. In the message, they express deep sorrow, extend condolences to his family and fans, and request respectful mourning, asking the public to refrain from speculation and intrusive reporting.
Rise to fame
He began his career as a model before he made acting appearances in the 2009 Korean drama Boys Over Flowers and 2015’s To Be Continued, among other titles.
In 2016 he joined Astro alongside MJ, Rocky, Cha Eun-woo, Yoon San-ha, and Jinjin. The band’s hits include “Candy Sugar Pop,” “Blue Flame,” and “Baby.”
In 2020, record label Fantagio formed Moonbin & Sanha, Astro’s first sub-unit comprised of the late singer and Yoon San-ha.
Personal life
He was the older of two siblings, with his younger sister, Moon Sua, also making her mark in the K-pop industry as a member of the girl group Billlie.
How did Moonbin die?
Moonbin, a member of the K-pop group ASTRO, was found unresponsive in his apartment in Gangnam, Seoul, on the evening of April 19, 2023. Concerned after being unable to reach him, his manager visited his home and made the discovery.
Authorities have not yet confirmed an official cause of death, as an autopsy is pending. However, police have indicated to South Korean media that suicide is suspected. They also noted that no signs of foul play were found. He was 25.
Moonbin’s passing adds to the tragic list of young South Korean celebrities whose lives have ended prematurely.
Funeral
Moonbin was laid to rest on April 22, 2023, with the funeral procession and burial location kept private in accordance with his family’s wishes.
