American record executive who founded Casablanca Records. He influenced the popularity of disco.

He used the pseudonym Neil Scott for his short-lived singing career in the 1960s.

He elevated such acts as Donna Summer and The Village People.

He married Joyce Trabulus, who later set up his memorial fund with songwriter Carole Bayer Sager. His son Evan followed his footsteps into the music industry. 

He signed Gene Simmons and the band KISS to his record label in 1973. His memory was honored with the KISS album Creatures of the Night, which was dedicated to him.
