On February 9, 1997, Connolly passed away at 51 in Slough, Berkshire, succumbing to kidney and liver failure compounded by repeated heart attacks .​

Funeral

His funeral took place on February 17, 1997, at the Most Holy Name Roman Catholic Church in Denham, Buckinghamshire. Following the service, he was cremated at Breakspear Crematorium in Ruislip, where a memorial plaque now honors his legacy.
