Rock Singer

Dan Peek’s Death – Cause and Date

Dan Peek, a co-founder of the popular folk-rock group America, died unexpectedly on July 24, 2011. He was 60.

Born on November 1, 1950, in Panama City, Florida, Dan Peek formed America with bandmates Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley in 1970. The trio quickly rose to fame with hits like “A Horse with No Name,” “Ventura Highway,” and “Sister Golden Hair.”

After leaving America in 1977 to pursue a solo career in contemporary Christian music, Peek continued to impact the music industry.

In 1973 he married Catherine Maberry, and they would write many songs together.

His sudden death was a shock to his fans and the music community. Peek passed away in his home in Farmington, Missouri. The cause of death was diagnosed as fibrinous pericarditis, a rare heart condition. He was interred in Farmington’s Zolman Cemetery where he rests alongside his wife Catherine. “Married for 38 years” reads the inscription on their gravestone.
