Prominent German Expressionist painter and printmaker who founded The Blue Rider art journal. He also produced roughly 60 prints in woodcut and lithography.
He had a long, drawn-out affair with married antique dealer Annette von Eckardt and was married twice, first to Marie Schnuer, then to Maria Franck.
