Geoffrey Palmer dead: British Sitcom Icon and James Bond star dies at 93

Geoffrey Palmer was a distinguished English actor whose career spanned more than six decades. Born in London in June 1927, he became a familiar face on British television and film, earning over 175 acting credits since his debut in 1955.

He appeared in many beloved sitcoms over his long career, but he’s best remembered for starring alongside Dame Judi Dench in As Time Goes By, the romantic BBC series that ran from 1992 to 2005. The pair reunited in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, and Dench later called him the ‘naughtiest’ man she’d ever worked with. He also played the grumpy but endearing dentist Ben Parkinson in the BBC sitcom Butterflies, which aired from 1978 to 1983.

His long and successful career contributed to an estimated net worth of $10 million.

Personal life

He married Sally Green in 1963, and the couple had two children: a daughter named Harriet and a son, Charles, who followed a creative path of his own as a television director.
